The University uses a variety of mechanisms to communicate and consult with employees and the Unions relating to workplace issues that have significant consequences including HR policies and change management. One such mechanism for consultation is the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), a joint university/union consultative committee. 

The JCC is the primary University/Union consultative body in relation to workplace reform and other significant employee relations issues as outlined in the Central Queensland Enterprise Agreement 2009. 

The JCC will comprise of representatives of University management and each of the five (5) unions with academic and professional staff members covered by the agreement:

• three (3) nominees of the National Tertiary Education Industry Union (NTEU) to represent academic staff;
• two (2) nominees of the Australian Municipal, Administrative, Clerical and Services Union (ASU) to represent professional staff;
• two (2) nominees of the Communications, Electrical, Electronic, Energy, Information, Postal, Plumbing and Allied Services Union of Australia (CEPU) to represent professional staff;
• two (2) nominees of the United Voice Union to represent professional staff;
• two (2) nominees of the National Tertiary Education Industry Union (NTEU) to represent professional staff; and
• two (2) nominees of the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) to represent professional staff;

In accordance with the definition of ‘representative' in the current enterprise agreement, no management representative or union nominee on the JCC can be a practicing solicitor or barrister.
